We Married Now

Yesterday was the big day! We are officially Husband and Husband! Mr. & Mr. Yoberts* Ok, that’s not actually our married name. In fact, we chose to keep our ‘maiden’ names. Corey Roberts & Cristian Young.

It was a difficult decision. Not because either of us contested the other keeping their name, but because it was such a seemingly permanent decision. Sure – now we feel this name identity, but if we ever wanted to have the same last name…. could we do it in 5 years? Or what about having kids? Will they be confused – will teachers – Doctors?

Ultimately, we decided that like everything we’ve faced in the past, we’ll continue to face as it comes in the future.

Results are in and we’re happy to say the day went off without a catastrophe!

Well, beyond superficial catastrophes!

We arrived at the venue at 8am after buying our wedding parties some champagne and breakfast (as planned, they started arriving around 10am) We also set up our Nespresso machine for some as needed liquid revival!

We arrived early to set up the trees & plants for the wedding décor. Since we’re doing everything mostly DIY – we had a lot to do! Plus, we wanted to bang it out so we could A. Enjoy the company of our wedding party and families, and B. Drink and get pumped for the day!

--Thank you to everyone who tuned into the wedding livestream! We had received so many requests from new friends out of the country and even family that was physically unable to make it to the big day. We loved sharing it with you and we felt so humbled by all the messages of encouragement and love--

We haven’t yet mentioned, but it was a tropical monsoon…. Our wedding in LA, where it is sunny 360 days a year fell on the rainiest day of them all. We made the call a few hours to our ceremony start and thank goodness because it poured rain all night. We set up a line of tents outside, with heaters on the perimeter as well as our umbrellas and blankets we had bought prior. It was more or less a covered path to the food trucks! We’ll say though – no one seemed to mind, and the biggest change was moving our cocktail hour from outside to inside. Which really just kept everything feeling more intimate (minus the very open reception change over – again though, no one seemed to mind).

Something we probably could have not done is rented the arcade games. Don’t get us wrong, people were playing them all night (especially kids) but it seemed like they were definitely low on peoples priority list. In all… not worth the $600! Haha

Our DJ, DJ Tessa, really set the tone for our event. In conjunction with the seamless operation of Cali Craft Cocktails and our food trucks, she kept our guests engaged and active on the dance floor all night. We wish we could have kept going all night long.

We're baaaaaack! And we've got our socks on!!
